India, China Joint Training Exercise Hand in Hand 2016 begins in Pune

  • The sixth edition of India-China Joint Training Exercise “Hand in Hand 2016” has started in Pune, Maharashtra.
  • The aim of the bilateral military exercise is to share the expertise in drills and practices while tackling insurgency and terrorism between Indian Army and People’s Liberation Army of China.
  • Thus, it seeks to promote healthy military to military relations between the two armies and developing joint strategies for conducting operations in a counter terrorism environment.

Lewis Hamilton wins Brazilian Grand Prix

  • Lewis Hamilton, British Formula One racing driver from England, won the Brazilian Grand Prix.
  • This race was his ninth win of 2016  with several high-speed accidents, two stoppages and five safety cars.
  • The victory cut the lead of his Mercedes team-mate Nico Rosberg, who finished second, to 12 points.

Facebook sets wireless data transfer world record at 20 Gbps

  • Facebook’s Connectivity Lab set a world record transmitting at nearly 20 Gbps for 13.2 kilometers with MMW (Milli Meter Wave) technology.
  • This will be used as a terrestrial back haul network to support access solutions such as Terra graph and Project ARIES.

Ralph Fiennes named best actor at 2016 London Evening Standard Theatre Awards.

  • Ralph Fiennes, A 53-year-old actor, won the best actor award for two plays, at the 2016 London Evening Standard Theatre Awards.The ceremony, presented by Rob Brydon, was held at London’s Old Vic theatre.
  • The actor was awarded for his performances in both “The Master Builder” and “Richard III” at a star-studded bash held at London’s Old Vic Theatre.
  • Best Play award went to “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child” and was presented to director John Tiffany by Dame Maggie Smith. The show, a sequel to JK Rowling’s books, opened to five-star reviews.
  • Singer-turned-actress Billie Piper, 34, was the proud recipient of the Natasha Richardson Award for Best Actress for her part in “Yerma“, by defeating Dumezweni, Helen McCrory and Sophie Melville.

India’s first Cherry Blossom Festival starts in Meghalaya

  • Meghalaya on 14th November became the first state to start India’s first Cherry Blossom Festival, which is widely celebrated in Japan.
  • The four-day festival will also provide opportunities to showcase the unique beauty of pink and white cherry blossoms as well as Meghalaya’s traditional arts, culture and cuisine to the naturalists and tourists.

Golfer Chawrasia wins first Asian Tour title outside India

  • Indian golfer SSP Chawrasia clinched the $1 million (Rs. 6.8 crore) Resorts World Manila Masters in the Philippines, his first ever Asian Tour title outside India.
  • Chawrasia beat Malaysian Nicolas Fung and American Sam Chen on the final day of the tournament.
